Top 2010 Wedding Style Trends: Laura & Jim's Roof Top Reception

TheKnot.com just released thier wedding trend predictions for 2010. Topping the list, vintage glamour from the 50's and 60'. I immediately thought of this stunning wedding designed by Williamson County Weddings' principal planner Amy Parman last fall in Nashville, TN. I definitely knew Amy and her clients, Laura & Jim were fashion forward, but who knew they would be setting the tone for 2010's wedding style!

While you can see the vintage glam in the colors and details, you will just have to imagine the big band playing the background. Thanks to the Blue Tones, this wedding was swinging well into the evening for a celebration that we will always remember.

"Music City Magic" - A Summer Wedding in Nashville

Leah wanted a very formal, elegant and traditional wedding ceremony but wanted to cut loose and have fun at a laid back reception. We took her vision to heart and there was no doubt in my mind that the Wightman Chapel at Scarritt-Bennett Center would be the perfect location for the ceremony.

Working with floral designer Caprice Palmer, we created a modern focal point at the altar with tall, blooming branches in vintage garden urns with a bold, single line of white hydrangeas and dozens of candles. White rose petals and hydrangeas lined the aisle.

With thier southern roots and the last name "Lee," who could pass up such a perfect get away car. The couple made their grand exit from the church in none other than the General Lee from the Dukes of Hazard, a vintage replica owned by a family friends.

Finding the perfect spot for the reception was a little bit trickier. The couple was living in Memphis while planning a Nashville wedding which made it a challenge to visit locations. But after dozens of emails and hundreds of pictures, we finally decided on the Musicians Hall of Fame in downtown Nashville. It had the right vibe for a the laid back party Leah & Brent wanted.

We utilized a cocktail style floor plan to maximize the space and leave plenty of room of the dance floor. Using natural tones such as ivory, browns and greens, we were able to create a very casual but upscale look for the reception that just hinted at the elegance and formality of the ceremony earlier that day.

Chef's Market provided a delicious heavy hors d'oeuvres menu featuring many southern favorites such as shrimp and grits. Instead of a groom's cake, Brent had a white chocolate banana pudding passed before the sour crem almond wedding cake was served later in the evening. The dance floor stayed hoping all night with a great mix of country hits, top 40 and oldies but goodies played by the wonderful Nashvegas All Stars.

Pretty In Pink - A Spring Wedding at CJ's Off the Square

We had so much fun working with April and Chris to plan thier May 2009 wedding at CJ's Off the Square. Enjoy these pics courtesy of the lovely couple and Bopp Photography.

Congratulations April & Chris!
Custom programs designed by CJ Dickson for Williamson County Weddings.
See more like this in our new custom designs portfolio.
To remember her parents who had passed away, April chose this silver frame broach from our collection to honor their memory.
Make It Yours: Get inspired by April's idea to add a special photo or even a meaningful quote to your bouquet. The broach attached easily with ribbon.

Nothing completes a cake table like custom napkins. We used the flourish motif in all of April's printed pieces as well as the table linens and napkins for a cohesive look that wasn't over done or too busy. April ordered extra napkins to enjoy her wedding style at home in the months following the wedding. View this and other custom designs in our new portfoilio.

Love this look for your reception? Of course we would love to have you here at CJ's Off the Square. But if you already have your reception site secured, give Southern Events and Nashville Event Lighting a call to get a custom quote and tell them CJ sent you!

An East Nashville Destination

The WCW staff was delighted to be invited to a Open House luncheon today introducing a new venue in East Nashville called The Ambrose House. The historic home has been painstakingly renovated and is now open for weddings, parties, and corporate meetings of 60-80 guests. They've also formed a warm partnership with the historic Methodist church across the street to offer a chapel or lawn ceremony option in addition to the facilities at the House.

I personally loved the space for rehearsal dinners and smaller private parties such as anniversaries, birthdays, and showers. The staff there, knowing the value of an immaculately planned event, is often willing to work with a variety of budgets when a professional planner is involved. If you have an event in mind, give us a call and we'll be happy to create the right event for you at The Ambrose House!

They also have some beautiful angles for modern bridal portraits - something to keep in mind!

Michael & Melanie - A Winter Wedding!

When my dear friends Michael & Mel asked me to help with their wedding this last winter, I was so excited! One of the things I love most about being a wedding planner is the not only all the fantastic new clients I get to meet because of my job, but also the chance to work with friends and family I already know and love on their special day!

The wedding was a beautiful Brentwood church followed by an afternoon reception at The Factory at Franklin. Mel's dress was stunning, and we carried the soft, romantic style of her look into the entire wedding, sticking with a chocolate, blush, and cream color scheme. One of my favorite parts of the day was their wedding cake - Amy at The Bake Shoppe hand wrote the lyrics from their first dance song - "Forever" by Ben Harper" on to each layer! The favors were handmade and were a tribute to the breast cancer survivors in their families, accompanying by a donation made by the bride & groom.

Enjoy the slideshow!

16th Birthday Extravaganza!

We were asked several times this night if MTV was going to show up to shoot this wild 16th birthday we did for a lucky guy named Anthony, and once you see these pictures you might know why! It was a crazy night and we had a blast creating a VIP club right in the midst of the Cool Springs Marriott.

More pictures to come but go check out a sneak peek on Joy Marie's blog!

DJ & Amanda - August 23

October is a crazy month for weddings in Tennessee. I don’t know if it is the idea of cooler temperatures that make us want to snuggle up with our sweeties or just the beauty of a Tennessee fall that makes so many people want to tie the knot this time of year. We have been busy here at WCW with some beautiful celebrations of our own. We were so thrilled to launch our new website this month as well as producing 10 unique events for our clients. Let us know what you think of the new site. We want it to be easy to use and informative…so if you have suggestions on how to make it better, email me: cj@williamsoncountyweddings.com.

Because we have been so busy, I only just had the chance to review the wonderful photography of Michael Howard shot for our clients, Amanda and DJ back in August. We love working with Michael. He has an incredible edge that is perfect for clients who like photography that is just south of traditional. He knows Franklin inside and out which means you can have some of the most original settings for your portraits – like the old prison on Bridge St. in downtown Franklin. Or in and around The Factory at Franklin, where this wedding was held. No matter where you are getting married, Michael does a great job of giving his clients totally original pictures that you will love.

And now for a quick look at this event. Amanda and DJ are rockers at heart, but wanted a traditional wedding. They chose the Factory as the setting for both the ceremony and reception for 250 guests. The symbol of two doves with rings was selected by our clients early on to symbolize their union so we used that through out the overall design – on the wedding programs, which were also fans, as well as a custom gobo light. The couple loved the symbol so much, they even got identical tattoos! Now that is commitment! DJ plays guitar for Christian music star Steven Curtis Chapman so it was no surprise that his groom’s cake was a perfect replica of his instrument (strawberry pound cake – yum!). Maples Wedding Cakes also did the wedding cake, featuring their one of a kind orange dreamsicle cake.

Let me just take a minute to tell you something about Maples Wedding Cakes. Amy and I have planned over 100 weddings and we have NEVER run out of cake. No matter how many people do or don’t RSVP, there is always enough cake to go around and then some. Amanda and DJ taught us a lesson. Never order “just enough” orange dreamsicle cake from Maples. Double it! The guests will fight you for the last piece and pick at the crumbs until the base board is completely clean. Every last piece of the wedding and groom’s cake was completely devastated. I couldn’t believe it!

A special thank you to Nashville Event Lighting for making the room a vision in fuchsia.

Thanks for reading our blog. If you have any questions about any aspect of this event or need some help with your upcoming occasion, please give us a call. It would be our pleasure to answer any questions you may have about working with Williamson County Weddings & Events or refer you to one of the many vendors we work with who can help.

Happy Fall Y’all!
Sincerely, CJ

Ocean Way Platinum Party

Hello WCW readers! Amy here to tell you about a great event we did in August. I was delighted to have old friends at EMI CMG and sixstepsrecords call and ask us to put together an event at legendary Ocean Way Studios in Nashville to celebrate not one, but three milestones for their artist Chris Tomlin: Platinum certification for Arriving, Gold certification for See The Morning, and the debut of his next record, Hello Love (9/2/08).

Because the event would take place during the workday, we wanted to keep it light and casual, while still providing a cool environment. We decided on a sushi menu, with everything butlered and passed to keep the crowd on its feet. A special treat was the dessert sushi: completely made of fruits, chocolate, and other sweets, but they appear deceptively identical to the sushi we know and love!

We here at WCW are ALL about the details, and that's where we chose to inject some unique personality! Inspired by our sushi menu, we chose to top the tables with mini Asain gardens and Bonsai trees and used fragrant citris bamboo tealights to make Studio A just a little more Zen. Guests also sipped White Raspberry Tea and munched on Wasabi snack mix out of "L O V E" dishes that matched the album cover art exactly!

Last was a special performance from Chris and the presentation of plaques. We were honored to be part of such a monumental occasion and give our congratulations to Chris Tomlin and team for their many, many sucesses! And thanks to Ruben J Photography for all the great shots!
